Student-led Learning and Assessment
In all subjects, assessment is built into the schemes of work. It is designed to provide valuable, specific, constructive feed-forward regarding student progress, as well as the effectiveness of teaching of the curriculum. Assessment is fully integrated into teaching and learning through extensive use of formative assessment or assessment for learning (AfL). Students actively participate in the assessment process and contribute to the assessment criteria. Students are able to self-assess and monitor their own progres. Teachers use assessment results to plan further instruction for groups and/or individual students. GEMS Global Values and Learning Outcomes are embedded in curriculum plans, delivery of the curriculum and school culture.
External Benchmarking for National and International Standards:
From the Baseline as well as Endline International Benchmarking Tests through ACER (australian Council for Education Research) to japanese Benesse benchmark evaluations and Open Door’s Thinking Mastery Assessments, the school consistently collects, correlates and validates internal and external assessment data across International benchmarks of quality mastery learning in all subject domains.
Student-led Conferences:
These 3-way conferences led by our young learners for their parents and teachers, play a pivotal role in a GEMS school's assessment process. These biannual conferences empower students to exhibit their curated portfolios, reflecting their progress, identify their areas of improvement and take pride in their success. Young learners set goals and take accountability for their own learning. This metacognitive reflective practice helps them become self-aware lifelong learners, while also providing a platform for students to showcase their high-quality work and celebrate their achievements.
