Health and Well-bring

Social-emotional health and wellbeing of all learners is a part of mainstream learning at the GEMS International School Gurgaon. Each classroom is equipped with Peace / Emotional Intelligence corners and the school corridors are lined with Learning Stations and ‘Safe Space’ cozy nooks. These are designed for young learners to feel safe, supported when they are feeling overwhelmed or experiencing any kind of stress. These learning centres are typically equipped with sensory materials, calming activities, and resources for emotional support. In this and a multitude of other initiatives, the school provides a safe and nurturing environment for learning and the development of thinking. This approach acknowledges that emotional support is just as important as academic learning, and helps to create a more inclusive and supportive school community.

DEVELOPING SUSTAINABILITY MINDSETS
DEVELOPING SUSTAINABILITY MINDSETS

GEMS International School aims to nurture a generation of thought activists with radical compassion for a sustainable future. The school is dedicated to fostering sustainable development and eco-literacy among young learners, the leaders and thought activists of a better tomorrow. The UN Sustainable Development Goals are embedded in all subject domains of the school curriculum. With an emphasis on sustainability, its socio-economic implications, the challenges at hand, and potential solutions, the learners evolve as globally aware responsible thought leaders. GEMS learners engage in eco-friendly practices, believe in conservation, renewable energy and have a close relationship with nature. The school ‘Butterfly Garden’ is just one of the examples of our children’s thriving relationship with the earth’s natural environment and biodiversity. With collaborations for E-waste with Ecoverva and initiatives on sustainability with GoSharpener, distribution of seedlings on numberless occasions, eco-friendly celebrations, effective waste segregation, energy conservation and Net-zero campuses, our learners immerse in a mindset of sustainability. GEMS students actively engage in our FairTrade initiative, gaining insights into ethical consumption and the far-reaching impact of their choices. Our student-led ‘Organic Farm’ cultivates a profound understanding of sustainable agriculture.

GEMS Community Engagement

Community engagement is a two-way street where the school, families, and the community actively work together, creating networks of shared responsibility for student success. Students are motivated and engaged in learning — both in school and in community settings, during and after school.

A community school is both a place and a set of partnerships between the school and other community resources. Its integrated focus on academics, health and social services, youth and community development and community engagement leads to improved student learning, stronger families and healthier communities. Community schools offer a personalised curriculum that emphasises real-world learning and community problem-solving. Schools become centers of the community and are open to everyone – all day, every day, evenings and weekends.

We believe that by engaging with the community, our students develop a better understanding of global development issues and the impact they can have in our world. Our aspiration is that, for every child enrolled at a GEMS school, we impact the lives of 100 underprivileged children in our world.
